Miscellaneous chit-chat.

Back in January Minna started the Comments on the data base thread which has been and is still very successful .
Inspired by that I’m starting this new thread for anyone who wants to talk about stuff not always directly related to the Priests , be it computer problems , web links , questions about this website, pets, welcoming new people, hobbies all general and light topics etc… in order to keep the database thread and access easier to use . We can then keep the Comments on the Database thread for the serious and official stuff posted by Pilgrim and relating to all three Priests .

Also can I remind people , now that we are all going to go to Comber shortly that there are two links for Fr. Martin’s church ( this one and one called New Webcam ) and comments on mass or homilies at Comber and Newtownards should be entered there.
Similarly, all of us also attending Ballyclare masses, please put comments on the existing thread Ballyclare and webcams .
As far as possible try to keep to existing threads. It is so difficult to trace stuff when one has been away .
I hope you do not think I am an awful bully , but I’m just trying to keep things nice and tidy, ( after all it is the Priests’website
and they do look at it ! ) .
Should you have any objections then contact me in this thread !

Hi: Sometimes when listening to The Priests on my stereo, I wonder how many others around the world are listening to the same song at the same time. Last evening, that got me to thinking…always dangerous (!) but please let me know what you guys think of this. Wouldn’t it be cool if ALL of “us” fans, followers and Fas members played the identical song from one of the CDs at the exact same time, as a way to wish Fr. Eugene a happy birthday? Since we can’t be there in person? (Sorry Pilgrim, I would like to have run this past you first since I don’t know exactly what celebration you have in store for Fr. Eugene, but I don’t know how to reach you.)

There would be two major logistics to figure out:

1. Which song? It should be something up-beat and also something that features Fr. Eugene singing. Also, something from one of their CDs as most of us have them. (“I certainly hope so!”) I just think it would be great for someone to tell him that at this very moment, we’re all honoring him, from all corners of the globe, by listening to one of their songs at the same time. (I have a feeling he might like that ...wouldn’t you?)

2. Times? This could be complicated considering all the time zones and various work schedules on a Friday, so perhaps at the same hour both a.m. and p.m., i.e., both 8 o’clocks on August 6th, GMT. Those who couldn’t join in one could join the other time. And those who don’t have access to a CD player at either time could at least sing or hum it…don’t we all know their songs by heart?!

I kind of like this idea (or I wouldn’t have started the thread!) and wonder what others think. It would also be a sign of unity among their many fans from all over in honor of his birthday. Any comments? c.

Welcome to
The Next Thirty Questions, #101-130!

Question 101: When was the first time (date?) that The Priests’ parishioners heard the news of their Fathers having been signed up by Sony – and how did they react?

Question 102 (a “percussive” question): Which Irish pop star was scouting around for “a singing priest” for EMI Records back in 2008 and rang Fr Martin, asking about doing a demo tape?

Question 103: How did Fr Martin describe his older brother during a PBS interview regarding modern technology and his own “arrival in the 21st century”?

Question 104: What kind of books does Fr Eugene prefer? Name at least one example!

Question 105: Who was ordained a deacon first, Fr Martin or Fr David?

Question 106: When The Priests arrived in Westminster in April 2008, they were unprepared for the big media machine waiting for them – and suddenly realized they had forgotten to tell a very important person that they might be signing a contract with Sony that very day. Whom had The Priests “forgotten” to tell the big news – and with whom did they try to get in touch as quickly as possible?

Question 107 (a “heavenly” question): Which world famous magazine profiled The Priests in summer 2008 – and how were they described?

Question 108: Where did Frs Martin and Eugene grow up?

Question 109: Other than The Priests and the resident choir, what other group, if any, was given the privilege of recording an album in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome?

Question 110: What kind of very diplomatic answer did Fr David once give a journalist when being asked if the 1970s folk mass was “a good thing or an unspeakable evil”?

Question 111: In one sentence: What does Fr Martin in general hope that The Priests’ music will give the people?
Question 112 (a “crisp”“, indeed “refreshing” question): Can you name one of Fr. Eugene’s favourite types of wine? How about something “higher proof”?

Question 113: How does Fr David in general describe the reaction of The Priests’ confrères in N-Ireland to their musical ministry?

Question 114: Which of the three Fathers got nicknamed “Marlon Brando” – and who of them jokingly describes himself as “Daniel Craig’s elder brother”?

Question 115: Until 2008, The Priests’ producer Mike Hedges was mostly known for his work with groups or artists like … ?

Question 116: According to their own words, why did The Priests immediately feel a very strong connection with St Paul’s Basilica in Toronto?

Question 117: In how many countries was The Priests’ debut album released simultaneously in November 2008 – and can you name one outside Europe and North and South America?

Question 118: During Easter 2009 The Priests introduced some of their favourite music during a special broadcast on Classic-FM. Which songs did Fr David choose for that?

Question 119: Of The Priests, who took on the role of Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady in early 2008 – and what kind of nomination did it win him?

Question 120: What was Fr Martin’s reaction when being asked about druggie rocker Pete Doherty wearing rosary beads?

Question 121: What was Mike Hedges’ reaction when he first heard the demo tape of The Priests?

Question 122: Which role in which of Mozart’s most famous operas is included in Fr Eugene’s repertoire?

Question 123: Of The Priests, who has been for a number of years harbouring the desire to one day travel to New Zealand – and which famous Kiwi film plays a role in that interest?

Question 124: What is the title of one of Fr Martin’s favourite books?

Question 125 (a “snuff” question): During 2009, all three Fathers have been repeatedly heard to say that they were “black and blue all over”! Now why would they possibly say such a thing?

Question 126: For whom of The Priests is May 5th a special date – and why? (Note: The Priests’ debut performance in Sydney on 5 May 09 does not count!)

Question 127 (a winter question): Fr David was once asked during an interview, if he had been “a good boy” at school. He seemed amused by the question – what did he answer?

Question 128: In January 2009, who of The Priests was the first to mention in the media that there was “a possibility of a second album”?

Question 129: Can you name some albums/artists of Fr David’s varied CD collection?

Question 130: When, where and with which production did Fr …?... make his directorial debut?

.

Dear all: Enjoy!

.

Note:
I will try posting the next round of the Quiz on Friday at 14 GMT!

There is obviously a fault with the webcam and I reported it yesterday, with the reply that it was ok at his end .
If you have experienced a difficulty wiith listening to the mass at Fr. Eugene’s church perhaps report the fault to:
E-Mail Paul at mcnmedia dot tv .
It would be nice to have a reliable link !
In the meantime we are lucky to have access to other webcams in Ireland ! So it is Clonard monastery again today.
