In 2009, The Priests, an unknown vocal group of practising priests from Northern Ireland, became the chart sensation of the year with their self-titled debut recording.
Fathers Eugene O Hagan, Martin O Hagan and David Delargy’s first album was the fastest selling classical debut album of all time, superseding even Pavarotti’s AND making them an overnight sensation that was 30 years in the making.
Their success is not just confined to the UK and Ireland. Since signing their record deal they have topped the charts from America to Australia and they have given one off performances to The President of Ireland, The Prince Of Wales and The Duchess Of Cornwall and last but no means least, Her Majesty The Queen.
If that wasn’t enough, they became Guinness World Record holders and performed at the Classical Brits and Classic FM Live.
All this, and they have still kept their ‘day jobs’ as parish priests!
In November 2009 The Priests launched their second album, Harmony which features tracks such as ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ and ‘Amazing Grace’. This is the second time The Priests have been nominated for the NS&I Album of the Year Award at the Classical BRIT Awards.
