You may remember we told you recently that Songs of Praise would be dedicating a whole programme to The Priests. The special, which airs this Sunday, features in depth interviews with The Priests and performances of tracks from new album Harmony, so it’s not to be missed.

Eamonn Holmes chats to Fr Martin about how he’s settling in to his new parish in Newtownards, where he balances the life of a priest in a busy parish with being an international singing star. Fr Eugene tells Eamonn how his mother inspired his love of music, while Fr David chats about his recent trip to Thailand where he witnessed first-hand the families in the slums of Pattaya who are benefiting from the proceeds of the first Priests album.

‘Songs of Praise’ is at 5pm on BBC1, Sunday 14th March.

HARMONY RELEASE DATE MOVES UP TO MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd

(October 12, 2009 - New York) Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, The Priests, the singing priestly trio who broke the Guinness world record for the fastest selling classical debut album of all time, are releasing their second album a day earlier from the scheduled release date on Monday, November 23rd.

The album, entitled HARMONY, will feature tracks such as “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Amazing Grace” and will be released once again by RCA Victor in the US, and worldwide by Sony Music Entertainment. The album was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and the Priests are accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on HARMONY.

Since signing the £ million global contract on the steps of Westminster Cathedral in April 2008, the Priests have enjoyed phenomenal worldwide success. The release of their first album The Priests last year resulted in a nomination for a Classical Brit Award, and selling over 1 million copies of their debut album in just 7 weeks. The Priests, their debut recording, was released simultaneously in more than 40 countries, fulfilling unprecedented global demand, and was embraced worldwide with stellar charting success. In the U.S., the album reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s Heatseakers chart, #1 on the Classical Traditional Chart, #1 on the Top New Artist Album chart, and held the top spot on the Amazon sales chart. Outside the U.S., the album debuted at #1 in Ireland (7x platinum), held the #1 spot in Norway for 4 weeks(platinum), #2 in Holland, #2 in New Zealand (2x platinum), #3 in Sweden (platinum), #4 in Finland (gold), #5 in the UK (platinum), #5 in Denmark, #7 in Spain (gold) and has achieved platinum status in Australia and Canada. The Priests have performed for such dignitaries as the Queen Of England, The President of Ireland, The Prince Of Wales and The Duchess Of Cornwall, and participated in New York City’s famed St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The full time priests and part-time pop stars have performed live shows in Australia, the UK, America, Canada and Ireland, been featured in some of the world’s largest publications, ranging from Time Magazine, Wall Street Journal, to People Magazine, and have appeared on major television shows across the world such as “CBS Sunday Morning,” “NBC Nightly News,” “Live with Regis and Kelly,” and the “CBS Early Show” and have promoted their album in over 17 countries. Their attraction then is evident, but Harmony proves once again that their talent is their most enduring feature.

The Priests, brothers Fathers Martin and Eugene O’Hagan and Father David Delargy, were young school friends when they first sang together at the age of 12 (Martin and David) and 15 (Eugene). Their love of singing continued while studying for the priesthood in Rome. Once ordained, all three took up parish commitments. Singing was both part of prayer plus, in their spare time, they performed in local operas, musicals and choirs and have been singing as a trio for 30 years. In February 2008, a Sony record company scout knocked on their door and asked them to make a demo. The rest, as they say is history. The Priests never allow their music commitments to stand in the way of their day jobs and parish obligations. So adamant are they that their priestly duties must come first, their recording contract stipulates that they will never be asked to put record promotion ahead of their pastoral work. In addition, the Priests have stated that the majority of the profits from the sale of their album that they receive as recording artists will be given to charity.
